Module 7.4 Discussion

Module 7.4 Discussion

Q This week, your written assignment is a proposal. Before we dive into what you’re writing and how you’re writing it, it’ll help to understand a little bit more about what makes writing persuasive. Because it’s important to understand what persuasive writing is and what it should include, you should complete your Module Learning Materials and review both Module Notes pages before completing this exercise. Instructions As you have learned this week, persuasive writing involves presenting an argument to sway your audience’s opinion on a specific topic. Your goal in this activity is to determine what a proposal or another persuasive document must include and how it must be written. Step 1: Review the Proposal Begin by reviewing this proposal for an innovative elementary school garden.Download proposal for an innovative elementary school garden. The sample report you are reviewing should be cited as follows: Bagdad Elementary School. (n.d.). Innovative school garden: Growing for a brighter future: A proposal to Whole Kids Foundation. https://www.prismnet.com/~hcexres/textbook/examples/BagdadGardenProposaltoWholeKidsFoundation.pdf Step 2: Analyze the Report Examine the proposal carefully and consider the following questions: • Is it a persuasive report? How do you know? • How is the proposal structured? • Are there any recommendations? If so, what are they? • Is there a clear call to action? If so, what is it? Consider the various aspects of persuasive reports you’ve learned about this week and think about the effectiveness of the sample proposal based on what you know. Step 3: Craft Your Initial Response In your initial response, please provide the following information: • A very brief overview of the proposal you’re analyzing, along with its purpose and intended audience. • A brief description of the problem the author is trying to solve with what is being proposed. • A brief analysis of how evidence is integrated (or isn’t) in the proposal. • A brief analysis of how you know whether the proposal is (or isn’t) persuasive. • A brief explanation of whether you believe the proposal is effective for its purpose and intended audience and why you believe so. You may post your response using a standard discussion reply, or you can use the built-in video recording tool in Canvas to create an audiovisual response. In total, whether written or spoken, your initial response should not exceed 150 words. Step 4: Respond to Your Classmates Review the posts of at least two classmates and respond with brief posts of no more than 50 words each (two to three sentences). Do you agree with your classmate’s assessment of the proposal? Why or why not? Your peer responses may be posted in written or audiovisual format, and they should not exceed 50 words. Evaluation You will be assessed using the TECH200 Icebreaker Rubric. The Icebreaker interactions combined are worth 10% of your final grade in this course. Outcomes This activity assesses the following module outcomes: • M7-01: Describe the characteristics of persuasive documents in the workplace. (CO1, CO2, CO3, CO5, CO7, CO9) • M7-02: Evaluate the effectiveness of a persuasive document for a specific purpose and a specific audience. (CO1, CO2, CO3, CO4, CO7, CO9, CO10)
